Family Farm Milestone Session in Woodstock
Milestone Celebrations
This session began with a celebration! When I arrived at the Butler Family Farm, I was greeted by the most down to earth bunch, as they celebrated a very special occasion; the 1 year wedding anniversary of Mom, Jen and Dad, Paul. I felt so lucky to meet Jen and Paul's parents and get a peek into their daily life. Photographing their sweet family of three on the family farm was equally as exciting. Being able to create photographs in a place so dear to my clients' hearts put everyone at ease and made for truly meaningful portraits for Jen, Paul and Alba to enjoy for years to come.
Jen and Paul wanted to create images that celebrated their family and captured how much 6-month old baby Alba had grown. I adore capturing babies at this age as it's a really unique time in a baby's development. Oftentimes you'll hear me refer to this as a 'sitter session', because babies at this stage are often able to sit up by themselves, unassisted. You may have also noticed your baby is becoming more social at this stage and find your little one making lots of new adorable expressions and sounds. During sitter sessions babies love to smile for Mama and Dada and are less likely to experience separation anxiety when not in their parents arms. This provides the opportunity to get some great solo shots of your growing baby.
It was a special thing to photograph Dad and Daughter on the land Paul explored as a child, knowing that one day Alba will be exploring those same places. The Butler Family Farm is full of rich history for Alba to learn about as she grows. Paul’s great-great-grandfather, Ross Butler was an artist, whose art was heavily influenced by his life as a dairy farmer. Woodstock itself has such a huge history of dairy farming, and the Butler family is a part of it. Alba will one day be taught by her parents that the history of her family is well worth remembering. They are lucky enough to have artwork done by Paul’s great-great-grandfather to remind them of their amazing family history.
Wardrobe was provided for both Paul and Alba for their milestone session. Mom, Jen had a previously chosen outfit of her own to wear. During their complimentary wardrobe consultation, we were sure to match the provided clothing to the beautiful jumpsuit Jen had for herself. This is another way I free up some of Mom and Dad’s time on the day of their session. Choosing complimentary outfits from my studio wardrobe can take away the stress of matching the entire family. Even if you already have an outfit selected, I will walk you through choosing clothing for the rest of the family that will compliment the pieces you already own.
“When I decided I wanted to get family photos done I came across Rachael’s page on Instagram. I thought her work was so beautiful and natural so I decided to contact her. She was very quick to respond to all my inquiries. I explained to her how I don’t always feel comfortable in front of the camera . She non-chalantly told me that it would be relaxed and there would be no pressure. I have to admit that I didn’t believe her! Haha. But during the entire shoot I felt as if I was just having fun with an old friend. She made our whole family feel comfortable and even got some great giggles from our 6 month old. Not only is Rachael professional she is one of the sweetest people I have met.
After our shoot was done she was in contact with us to book our reveal session. We weren’t quite sure what to expect, but it was so nice the way she set up her studio and spent the extra time with us to pick out the perfect photos. After she had showed us all our photos she helped us understand which photos would look best paired together when framed and installed. She was great with all her explanations and she was so patient with us as we chose our final prints. When the prints were framed and ready she came to our home to do the install. We were so happy she could take care of hanging the prints in the perfect spot. Now we get to pass by the photos of our family and be reminded of how lucky we are and how much we enjoyed our shoot with Rachael.
If you are looking for someone who is professional and down to earth Rachael is your person!”

During the reveal, Jen and Paul chose to enjoy their portraits with a wall collage, consisting of three framed images from their session which we installed above the second floor staircase in their stunning century home. I love that these pieces will remind them of these milestones, both their 1 year wedding anniversary, as well as their baby girl, Alba in her 6th month. There were so many smiles and giggles, now Jen, Paul and Alba will be able to enjoy these memories every time they walk past their portraits. As Alba grows she will be reminded daily of how much she's loved.
Clothing for this session was provided by our studio wardrobe. Imagine not having to stress about what to wear on photo day! Sessions at Rachael Little Photography include complimentary wardrobe and clothing consultation.
