How to Prepare Your Partner for a Maternity Photoshoot
You and your partner are so excited about welcoming your new baby. A maternity photoshoot is is the perfect way to document this special moment in your lives. Is your partner worried about taking maternity photos? Maybe he’s camera-shy, or maybe he’s unsure of what to expect. Your partner is far from alone! It’s totally normal for one (or even both) of the parents to have some concerns or questions about their maternity photoshoot. These are my best tips to help your partner feel ready and excited about your session!
Tips on Preparing Your Partner for Your Maternity Session
Show Him Your Favourite Images - You can pull up my Instagram or maternity portfolio page and show him some of my work. Not only does this give him an idea of how your images will turn out it’ll show him a bit about what to expect. You’re also welcome to show any of my Google reviews so he can read what others have to say about their experience.
Explain the Process - Your partner is welcome and encouraged to be part of our consultation. Full-service photography is new to many of my clients, and I love the opportunity to explain this process to you and your partner. Plus, he’ll feel excited and on board, knowing exactly what to expect!
Choose an Outfit He’ll Like Wearing - A few weeks before the session, you’ll stop by the studio to choose your outfits from my client wardrobe, including your partner’s outfit. We have many options, styles, colours, and sizes so that we’re sure to find something your partner will like. Honestly, he’ll probably feel relieved that he doesn’t have to do anything!
Assure Him That He Doesn’t Have to Be a Model - Hey, not everyone enjoys being in front of the camera. If he’s worried that he’s not a “model,” we can assure him that he’s not meant to be a model. In my experience, happy, loving people make the best subjects. We’re documenting your joy over your new baby.
Easy-Going Maternity Session - On the day of the session, you can feel rest assured that you and your partner will have a lovely time documenting your pregnancy. You don’t have to worry about knowing how to pose or “look perfect.” It’s actually better if you don’t know how to pose! All you need to do is love each other and your baby while I gently guide you through different effortless moments that I’ll capture with my camera.
Maternity Photoshoot Prep
My makeup artist will come to your home, about an hour or two before your session for hair and makeup. This is a great time for you and the rest of your family to hang out and relax before getting in front of the camera.
