Welcome Baby Sister
Meet the Curtis-Blair family. Jessica and her husband Mitch wanted to welcome their daughter Scarlett to the family with printed memories of this time. It was adorable to see how big brother Duncan was so sweet to his baby sister.
Many families tell me they are worried how older siblings will react to being photographed during this time of transition. Over the years I have found that taking a play-based approach is the best way to document moments of connection during our time together (not to mention it’s so much less stressful for parents and their children).
Play is also the easiest way to avoid power struggles with children of all ages. This relaxed approach also shows children that we are on their side, we’re here to listen and be fully present with them.
I keep items on hand in the studio for toddlers such as, natural wooden toys, stickers and bubbles. We’ll also play a variety of fun games to ensure we’re photographing frame-worthy images that are painless to create!
Duncan loved playing, “find your sisters nose, find your sisters toes” and “photographer”. The little toy camera made for a beautiful prop and fun toy for him to engage with.
Family sessions with young children don’t have to be painful. If we take our time and take our children’s lead - we are able to enjoy the process and create images that are even more beautiful.
CLIENT TESTIMONIAL
“We have been to Rachael multiple times now for photos. What I really love is she let’s your family lead and be themselves, and she captures you in your natural form. I also love her wardrobe. It is so nice when you have a newborn to not have to worry about what everyone is going to wear to co ordinate for photos, I loved the dress we picked out, it was so me and I was very comfortable in it She is great with the kids and my 2 year old son had so much fun playing with the stickers and the wood toys, it makes the whole experience very relaxed. We had so many amazing pictures during our reveal , it was hard to decide which ones to print. I love the variety in photos with some being more posed and some being very candid and playful. During our reveal we chose some pictures to have framed for our entry way. Rachael took care of designing it, letting us pick the frame and then all of the ordering, framing and she even came and installed them on our wall. We look forward to seeing Rachael for photos for years to come.”

Jessica & Mitch chose to remember their session with 4 framed prints. We designed this collage to fit perfectly in their entryway. Now they will be able to enjoy these memories every day!
